Pottery by Catherine Guibert-Orrantia

I love to create things out of nothing.  I enjoy cooking from “scratch” and using home grown ingredients.  I find this pattern in most aspects of my life.  It is why I make pots.  I find it intensely satisfying to use dishes that are created and touched by fellow craftsmen.

Handmade serving ware has become an attraction in my home.  Using these handmade items has become a way of life for my family and friends.  Being a part of other peoples’ homes, rituals, celebrations, and conversations appeals to me because I feel this connects us to one another in an intimate way.  I aspire to create work that draws you in.  I want you to want to hold and use each piece of pottery I create.

My work nearly all begins on the wheel, but I enjoy stretching, altering, and adding texture to the pieces to give them a more organic look.  Often I will integrate native woods, or other native material to enhance the beauty of selected pieces.

I love the idea of functional art: it appeals to my very practical nature.
